There was a time, back in the day, when the way the world worked required a person to exert themselves physically constantly, when manly men were the in thing. That isn’t the case now. Now men tend to look like women or women like men – it’s really an ambiguous toss up now.

While it isn’t a bad thing in itself, the culture of the world has changed since then as well, changed into one with hours spent in chairs in front of computers. Long periods of inactivity are growing more and more common, forcing the populace to take an active effort in maintaining their physical state.

However, that lifestyle has caused a certain level of laziness. It just isn’t the in thing to move around anymore. Plopping down in front of the boob-tube or computer work’s taken over the grit and grind of working and tilling the fields.

First and foremost, if a person is serious about losing weight or getting into a better physical condition, they need to realize that motivation rarely powers a person through all the gluts. Doesn’t matter if you’re a wuss or a tough guy – exercise is strenuous, tiring and very often repetitive. That means boring. For most people, there’s not enough motivation in the world to keep them going consistently.

That leaves them to rely on something else – habit. For the most part, it doesn’t matter if you’re lazily inclined or an athlete. You’re going to get lazy or complacent at some point and not everyone has the drive to just power through it. They rely on habit. Habit can make you get up at 5 AM and go for that job, even if you don’t feel like it, because it’s what you and your body are used to.

The start is of course, where you need to get pumped and motivated. Exercise is about hard work. If it’s not difficult, it’s probably not going to do you any good when it comes to physical conditioning. If you don’t find a reason for yourself, whether it’s to make your family feel better about your health or just because you want to look better, this isn’t going to work. Dig deep – there’s something in you that wants you to be fitter and stronger.

The five minute rule is a good another good exercise tip. Scientifically, the endorphins and the good feelings start around five minutes into your exercise. You might not feel up to it at the start, but give it some time. Go do it – go for a jog, do your warm ups and stretches and at around the five minute mark, your body will get into it and drag you along with it.

Thinking about exercise when you’re tired is a fine way to discourage yourself needlessly. Of course when you’re thinking about exercise at 1 AM it sounds unappealing. That’s why you’re going to do it at the time you scheduled, the time that you chose. At that point, the exercise will seem a whole lot more appealing.

Laziness is no excuse to slack off if you’ve got the motivation. The start isn’t just the most difficult mentally – physically, it can be the most demanding session. Your muscles are weak and new to the movement. With habit, motivation, proper scheduling and the right exercise tips, you’ll find a way to leap out of the pack of lazy people and into the a brighter, fitter world.
