Essential Massage Oil

It isn’t new but aromatherapy is still a favorite indulgence for a good number of people around the world.  For those who aren’t sure what it is, it is when you use plant oils and a selection from an essential massage oil to improve your psychological and physical state.  The right essential massage oil can truly punctuate a fantastic day or melt a bad one away.  It can be relaxing, energizing or both, depending on the kind used and how it is used on you.

Of course, as with anything, things like this can’t just be done by anyone.  It needs to be handled professionally, by an expert – you can’t just apply oils and hope for the best.  Precision and proper application is best, for both safety and maximum efficiency.

Aromatherapy Oils

Essential massage oil or an aromatherapy oil is the pure extract of a plant; its very essence, so to speak.  When used appropriately, these essences tend to give a positive effect physically and psychologically on the user.  There are at least a hundred essential oils out there, waiting for users around the world to take advantage of them.  It can be very expensive, considering how concentrated essential massage oil could be.  A thousand pounds of rose flowers, for example, is needed for a single ounce of rose essential oil.

The effects of each oil varies.  Some oils are there to soothe and relax your body and spirit, while others are there to revitalize you and awaken your strength.  Others even claim to be pain killers and stimulants.

What is Aromatherapy?

To practitioners, it’s much more than sniffing up something that smells nice.  To them, it’s an art and a science, one that has repeatable results.  It uses plants to achieve harmony and balance to fully promote a healthy mind, body and spirit.  As a treatment, it claims to be entirely natural and non-invasive compared to surgery, which is true.

Results vary when it comes to things like this and aromatherapy is no exception.  There are those who wholeheartedly support the concept and claim that it has helped them throughout the years while others think that it is all hogwash.  Interestingly, whether it works or not, the practice itself has been around longer than some religions.  It has been around for over five thousand years, in fact.

The biggest concern for most people is whether or not it really works, or if it’s really an exhibition of the placebo effect.  The best way to find out is to test it yourself and to see if it works for you.

So, How Does Aromatherapy Oil Work?

There are three ways to make full use of an essential oil: through inhalation, oral, or topical or massage.

Of these three methods, inhalation can provide the quickest response from your body.  Essential oils work because they interact with your nose and your body through tiny little things in your nasal cavity called olfactory nerves.  These olfactory nerves give the essential oils the fast track to a part of the brain called the limbic system.  This limbic system is the part of you that takes care of some very important stuff, such as your heart rate, memory and even your blood pressure.

When you apply it topically, you’re actually using an essential massage oil to deliver your aromatherapy commonly used when you’re bruised somewhere.  These essential massage oils are never greasy and contrary to intuition, actually don’t leave oily spots behind.  They work simply by penetrating your skin and getting into your bloodstream.  They aid your body both by attacking viruses and bacteria.  An application of an essential massage oil also stimulates the body’s natural defenses.  These oils, however, need to be handled properly some people are allergic to certain oils.  Another reason is that if they aren’t diluted properly, they can actually be dangerous when applied directly onto the skin.

Oral tinctures are the last method after an essential massage oil.  This is also the rarest method used in aromatherapy, given that this method is the one filled with the most risk for basically the same rewards that you get with the other two.  This absolutely requires medical supervision as these oils can easily be toxic or even fatal.

Sniffing It Out

Aromatherapy oils can be very useful, even if only for placebo effect for some people.  Some people need that extra jolt.  For doubters, they can still use it the way some athletes have a lucky jockstrap – as a placebo, a safety net for their confidence that harms no one if used properly.

Due to the controversy surrounding its efficacy, it really is best if you try it out for yourself, to see how it works for you.  One expensive session might lead to a fantastic new way to relax for you, which, if done well, pays for itself in the future.
